In June we are holding a series of free residential architecture and design seminars as part of the London Festival of Architecture.

The event is for people thinking about designing and building a new home, but who need some help, advice and inspiration.

You may be thinking of employing an architect, but don’t know where to begin. Maybe you want to build a low energy home but wonder what your options are.

You can find out about both of these topics by joining us on Thursday 18th June 2015. Simply register for one or more of the seminars listed below:

How to Appoint an Architect

Robert Wilson will describe the process of finding and appointing an architect to design your new home. He will describe the services an architect can provide and how they calculate their fees.

Understanding the RIBA Work Stages

James Munro will take an in depth look at the Royal Institute of British Architects’ work stages. He will explain what is included in each stage and what you can expect an architect to provide.

Key Considerations for Interiors

Vicki Wilson, Granit’s Head of Interiors, will describe some of the core principles of interior design for homes and housing. Vicki will discuss space planning, soft furnishings, use of colour and how to work with an interior designer.

The Value of Lighting Design

Lighting design can have a dramatic effect on a building. In this session, Architect Emily Osler will discuss some of the key considerations and opportunities for home designers when thinking about lighting.

Sustainable Design that won’t Cost the Earth

The key for designing an efficient home is to take a fabric first approach. Architect Tim Palgrave will explain what this means in practice and explore the opportunities for incorporating sustainability into residential design.

Exhibition

We will also have an exhibition of drawings and photographs from recently completed projects. Come along and explore, find ideas and inspiration that you can apply to your own home design project.

To attend our Open Studio seminars or exhibirion please register here. Please note you will need to register for each seminar separately.

We hope you will join us in a city-wide celebration of architectural experimentation, thinking and practice.
