We are thrilled to announce Granit is the winner of an International Design and Architecture Award, 2017.
We entered our Abercorn Place project into the ‘Residential £1-2.5 million (Property by Value) Award’ category at the International Design and Architecture Awards this year and won. The Awards had projects submitted from all over the globe. A record-breaking 61,000 verified votes were counted and an average voter spent 42 minutes looking at all the shortlisted projects before making their selections. We are so pleased to be selected to receive an Award, presented to Directors James Munro and Robert Wilson in the photo above.
Our Architect Director, Robert Wilson, who led the design of the project and collected the award said:
“We are extremely proud to win this Award. The project was very rewarding to design and see come together on site. We’ve been able to blend tradition and contemporary design to create a unique home that our client is delighted with.”
The project is a new build house in St John’s Wood in London. The property was previously the tired half of a pair of semi-detached houses. The brief was to reconfigure, extend and add a basement to the house, but this evolved into the design of a new build house, including a basement and garden room. The property is located in a conservation area, which added some complexity the project, but ultimately we have designed a home that’s full of beautiful design elements and materials.
There are some features we are particularly proud of including the cast concrete staircase (see photo below). By combining highly engineered polished concrete formed in a factory with a wrought iron balustrade formed by hand, we have created something that blends old materials with cutting-edge technology and re-established design techniques.
Here are some of the photos we submitted for our entry.
Thanks to all at Design Et Al who organised the awards. Once again, the whole team at Granit are proud to be International Design and Architecture Awards Winners, 2017.
