We like to reward our staff, for all the hard work they put in over the year, and each summer we take a day out of the office for a bit of team bonding. This year we started with an architectural tour of Wapping, Shadwell and Limehouse. George led us on a magical mystery tour of St Katherine’s Dock, Tobacco Dock, St George in the East, a Hawksmoor church – followed by Shadwell basin and finally ending up at Limehouse basin. It was fascinating to see the mixture of Georgian, Victorian, post war and more recent developments in this part of London.
We then changed from foot to canoe, travelling via The Limehouse cut onto the Lea Navigations. We passed old canal wharfs, mills and the Olympic Park at Stratford, ending up just short of Hackney Wick for a well earned drink and dinner. Despite the carpet of deep green slime on the canal, a good time was had by all.
