It has been a busy month. Hot on the heals of welcoming Linzi Kettle, we’re pleased to announce another new member of the Granit team, Ben Hawkins.
Ben started his architectural studies at Oxford Brookes University, followed by a Masters in Architecture at the University of Edinburgh. As part of his Masters, Ben undertook a two-year project focusing on Venice, with his work exhibited at the Venice Architectural Bienalle.
Ben was first drawn to architecture through an interest in design and the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, particularly his building Falling Water. Whilst at University Ben drew inspiration from architects such as Carlos Scarpa, in particular his Brion-Vega Cemetery and the Querini Stampalia. His interest is primarily due to Scarpa’s obsessive detailing with every aspect of his buildings. Other inspirations include Konstantin Makarov and Philip Johnson.
Ben enjoys travelling particularly to places of architectural interest such as Barcelona, Taliesin West in Phoenix and to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
Outside of University, Ben has been involved with a built project in Battersea Park for Architecture Week and exhibition curation for the Edinburgh Festival.
Welcome to the team Ben.
