London Borough of Richmond Planning Success

We are happy to announce that the London Borough of Richmond Planning team has approved our client’s application to extend their semi-detached property in Hampton.

Our brief on this project was simple: extending their property and maximising the site’s footprint. The family wanted a larger home to suit modern life better. The layout of their property was struggling to cater for their growing family, and they needed more space and a better floor plan.

Here’s a photo of the existing building:

We chose to tackle this project in two distinct moves; a two-storey side extension and a full-width ground floor rear extension.

Our initial assessment was to take advantage of the underused width of the site, which includes a garage and a side return passage. These features are perfect for development to create much needed new space.

The first-floor plan was also sub-optimal. A front box room and rear family bathroom presented opportunities to improve the layout for better family use.

Utilising the entire site on the ground floor allows for new spaces, including a wet room, utility and pantry. The rear open plan living areas will feature vaulted ceilings with floor-to-ceiling glazing that face north to capture ambient north light and allow views of the sky from the rear-facing spaces.

The side return is sympathetic to the existing property. It allows for an enlarged bedroom and family bathroom while a new study room is central to the plan in the extended area.

We are thankful that negotiations with the London Borough of Richmond planning team successfully secured approval for the correct architectural solution for the site and our client’s brief.
