Planning Appeal in Wandsworth Granted for Roof Terrace

Planning Appeal in Wandsworth

We have recently been successful with a planning appeal in Wandsworth for the creation of a roof terrace.

We worked closely with our client to renovate and extend this existing contemporary home adjacent to a listed school in Honeywell Road, Wandsworth – in the popular area of between the commons. The existing garden on the ground floor is small, north-facing and overshadowed, therefore an important feature the client wanted was an open terrace at roof level to take advantage of the great views and provide a sunnier space to relax. A number of precedents existed in the area but it was understood it would likely receive resistance from the local council (Wandsworth).

We set out a strategy early on to take the more contentious roof terrace elements through planning separately to the other works and planning to go to appeal if needed. After making use of a planning application and the follow-up submission, the scheme was fine-tuned to address policy and any other points raised by the local council allowing for submission of an application tailored to an appeal submission.

We prepared a written representation at appeal to set out the case for the roof terrace supported by drawings and perspective views with the result being permission granted at appeal.

The roof terrace links up with the internal stairwell and roof light already installed, creating a fantastic second external space with the benefit of beautiful views of London and a wonderful sun terrace adding great value and increasing the properties garden area by approximately 25%. It is a unique feature.
