Planning permission has just been granted on a contemporary glazed addition to a late Victorian property within the Heaver Estate Conservation Area of Tooting, Wandsworth.

The client’s brief was for the creation of a practical rear extension with minimal impact on the existing rear garden. An existing lean-to at the rear of the property created a physical barrier between the main ground floor reception areas and the garden, depriving the heart of the house of natural daylight.

Granit has developed a scheme that re-connects the main family space and garden with an emphasis on flooding the interior of the house with daylight.
Internal reconfiguration on the ground floor creates an open plan interlinked series of spaces offering views from front of the property, through the dining area and into the garden beyond.

The new rear addition has a lightweight aesthetic and features an openable wall of aluminium framed glazing supported by slender steel columns.
Clerestory glazing at high level creates the impression that the roof is floating above, enhancing the ambience of light and space.

A grand master suite has been created across the first floor and includes a spacious en-suite and dressing area.

Works are expected to begin later this summer.
