Planning permission in Cotswold District Council

We are pleased to announce that we have recently obtained planning permission in the Cotswolds, in the beautiful market town of Tetbury, Gloucestershire. This falls within the Cotswolds District Council planning authority.

The Opportunity and client brief

Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, our client bought this small three-storey and two-bed terraced stone cottage intending to extend and modernise it, whilst retaining the charm and character of a period property.

The property is entered from the road at an upper ground level, which drops down to a small living room, kitchen and dining area, opening up onto a south facing rear garden. Our client wants to increase the living areas, provide a more dedicated dining area, as well as physically connect it to the garden.

The house, unusually, has no existing windows to the front that faces the road.

The Proposal

The key proposal is to extend to the rear with a 4m deep single-storey extension, creating a new dining space off the existing kitchen.

A timber-clad box creates a modern addition, distinct from the old traditional building but complimenting the stone of the main house. Corner glazing in the extension allows the space to open up to the garden via a raised decking area. This blurs the division between internal and external spaces.

We are looking forward to getting on-site to build out the proposals in 2023
