We demolished this post-war semi-detached house in Balham, South London and replaced it with a three-storey enlarged family house. Built with a combination of masonry and steel frame construction, the exterior was clad with a palate of brock, render and timber cladding, giving a bold contemporary look to the street. The house incorporates a large kitchen-dining space at ground level opening to a remodelled rear garden. There is a new master suite at first floor level, and 3 further double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. A bespoke oak and glass staircase to the side of the plan, is top lit with rooflights bringing light deep into the house. The house is extremely energy efficient, with an estimated energy use of 65% of that of comparable sized older houses.
